BHANGAL COMMUNITY HALL + WORKSHOP

During 2023 + 2024, Traction collaborated with the University of Washington, local organizations and community members from Bhangal, Budhanilkantha, an informal urban settlement in the Kathmandu Valley destroyed during Nepal’s 2015 earthquakes. We helped design and construct the Bhangal Community Hall + Workshop  - a multi-functional venue for community meetings, education, income generation and events. The hall is constructed using compressed stabilized earth block (CSEB) and recycled brick, alternatives to concrete block and virgin kiln-fired brick, with minimal carbon / air pollution footprint. Improvements to site drainage reduce localized flooding and mosquito breeding grounds.
