KHOLCHA PAKHA PARK

During August and September of 2017, Traction provided remote support to the UW Department of Landscape Architecture as they undertook their first project in Kathmandu, Nepal. Working in collaboration with faculty and students from the Kathmandu University's Department of Development Studies, the Lumanti Support Group for Shelter, municipal representatives from Kathmandu's Ward 14 and the community of Hyumat (an urban slum on the banks of the Bishnumati River) the team designed and built Kolcha Pakha Park (Riverside Hills Park). The park serves as a small gathering and play space for the community's children and elderly. It was constructed with community participation and support for less than $3000.
