PARK PODS

From January until June, 2018, Traction provided remote support to the UW Department of Landscape Architecture, the UW Nepal Studies Initiative and Kathmandu University as they undertook the ‘Park Pods’ project. Located in Hyumat, an urban poor community on the banks of the Bishnumati River in Kathmandu, ‘Park Pods’ provides public space for gathering and play in an area where none previously existed. Pod designs were developed in collaboration with community members and local municipal representatives. Modular and mobile, they provide immediate benefits to community members and can adapt to the long term evolution of the neighborhood. They are fostering a growing sense of cohesion in Hyumat and spurring ongoing conversation about the future development of public space.
